Summer Road Trip 2003 - Day 2

Saturday, July 26, 2003 - El Paso with Gary

About El Paso

According to both residents and visitors, El Paso is one of America's most boring cities.  But after the most painfully BORING drive, El Paso's really not that bad.

From the ghetto to the mountainside -- it's sometimes hard to tell them apart...

Rain in El Paso

El Paso averages 7.8 inches of rain per YEAR, compared to the Texas average of 21.0 inches per year.  Seeing rain here is rare.

Clouds coming from the east...

A WALL of water coming our way!!!  Drive, Gary, DRIVE!!!

Since El Paso-ans don't expect much rain, they don't really prepare for it -- El Paso has a terrible drainage system.

And the flooding begins...

This car should have no trouble swimming through the floods.

(Check out that snorkel system!)

dry on our side,
wet on their side

for the Mexicans...?

Gary's family motto: "If you leave the table hungry, it's your own damn fault."  (They're really a nice family... really!)

Gary's home is in a flood zone.

Gary's Dad, Mr. Bob Adkins

(great steak! mmm...)
